Representative Livingstone Signs on to Letter Supporting Mental Health Parity for Disability Insurance (H.786)
Representative Livingstone, along with his colleagues in the House, signed onto a letter supporting Representative Balser's bill, An Act Requiring Mental Health Parity for Disability Policies. This bill would prohibit insurance companies from imposing time limitations for short term and long term disability insurance paid out as a result of a behavioral health disorder where no such restraints exist as a result of a physical disorder. Federal and State law already require mental health parity in health insurance, but this would extend that standard to disability insurance as well. Jay supports legislation that evens the playing field and opens doors for residents facing a mental health disability, and believes that this bill is a step in the right direction of closing a major gap in coverage.
